Our Dream Home (one day)

Brad and I  {L U C K E D} up on an amazing deal on a home back in 2016.  Literally the deal of a lifetime.  The location was in the subdivision I had always dreamed of living in – like way back to when he and I would take long drives after work during our summer internships and we would “plan” our future.  I had a feeling way back then that eventually Brad and I would make a home in this area.

Fast forward to 2018 and we are here!  God is so good.

The only catch to the dream home – hello 1990’s!  Don’t get me wrong, the house has incredible features, it just needs a little T.L.C. here and there.  Insert me plus my mother – the REAL Martha Stewart – and this house better watch out!

So let’s get down to the best room of the house – the former Auburn room.  My husband is a proud Alumni of Auburn University, but even he was offended by this bedroom.  I graduated from The University of Alabama (Roll Tide) – so would you be shocked or surprised to learn that I demanded this room be painted like on day one of moving into the house?  I mean it really wasn’t day one, it was more like day two.

The best feature of this room (maybe even the selling point) was the bright ORANGE glow you could see from the street.  My former neighbors/best friends Jess and Griff can totally back that part up.  The colors were lethal.

Now, let’s fast forward to now.

My mother is a SAINT.  That woman painted the entire bedroom and closet solo and installed a new closet organizer for her sweet Olivia.  She also was in charge of ordering and installing the custom shutters for the windows to help 1) dress them up and 2) help insulate the windows and block out the light during nap.  Pretty much I owe her my life and I will make sure to put her in the best nursing home around one day.

I decided to paint the walls gray (my favorite color) to help the room feel large and to keep it cool.  This bedroom is upstairs so it tends to stay very warm during the summer – keeping it light and airy is a MUST.  Installing the shutters has also been a major help in keeping the windows insulated – we can tell a noticeable difference since they made their appearance.

I love all of the unique touches in the room.  Some of the decor was bought from stores like Target or HomeGoods  – but most are special finds I have happened on over the years.  There are several special gifts throughout the room from family and friends – like the custom painting (above the tent) given to Olivia on her 1st birthday from my dear friend Keithe.  The adorable custom made growth chart was hand made by my multi-talented cousin Jennifer. The combination of new plus vintage is a true representation of my style.

I hope you enjoyed seeing the first of MANY room transformations in our new home.

Stay tuned…
